This is a notebook of photos and words. Some poetry, some fiction, some real life.

A meeting of Authors in Windsor

At BookFest Windsor, Black Moss Press, a literary press that I have been running for more than 40 years, hosted four writers — Rosemary Sullivan, Mary Ann Mulhern, Terry Ann Carter and Karen Mulhallen. From that point on, I started taking photographs of other authors. Ray Robertson, the gritty, outspoken and very funny storyteller, was a highlight. He was funny, honest, inspiring. He presented his book, Why Not? Fifteen Reasons to Live, and brought the place to a pin-dropping silence. Alistair MacLeod had everyone wondering if he was going to read a new work, especially when I got everyone’s anticipation about this spreading through the room. He told me he had picked four pieces — four different voices to illustrate point of view. Mmmm, I wondered. New work? He didn’t say. In these photos, you will see Ray Robertson with his bowler hat, Drew Hayden Taylor, Peter Behrens, Alistair, of course, Michael Crummey and Doug Gibson.
